#bourbon #whiskey #philbillymoonshine I am so glad I did this little experiment I really enjoyed the flavor that the American Black Chestnut brought out of the moonshine, and it turned the liquor dark almost immediately. I really hope in the future I can get some more of this wood to make some more bourbon because this stuff is awesome. White oak is still awesome if you need any check out my we...

    It should have an option where you can set how far down that you want to draw your battery. 3 different levels on others I've seen. Yours, by default, might be set to drain the battery only to the highest level which is why the car started.

    Yup....I bought one a long while back to play with and..well....I finally got some free time and dragged out a couple carboys of chokecherry/pear/suger wine that had been settling since last Fall...ran five gallons through a stripping run over a few hours...then the next day, ran again using the temp control and bumping it up a couple of dgrees when it slowed...I got 70% ABV out of it until it really dropped off, then proofed the alcohol down to 45% ABV...almost three 26 oz bottles worth, had a few snorts before bed, woke up clear headed and no hangover.....not a bad little unit.

    For that pizza oven toasting: I've read on HD site that people use their toaster oven & wrap the wood in foil to prevent/lessen the charring. Since those pizza oven gas heating elements are so close to the wood, maybe double wrapping it would work?

      Rum, tequila, and most European whiskey is reused American Oak barrels. A fresh toast and maybe char is usually done. The flavor impact is much more mild and it takes much longer to impart flavors.

    There are still 430 million or so American chestnut trees. The blight doesn't kill the roots of the tree since it dies in soil, so the tree grows back from the roots every year. They just don't produce enough seeds to reproduce anymore, and don't produce hardwood. So yeah, the WOOD might be extinct, but the tree itself isn't.

      @Appophust 7 днів тому

      @@philbillymoonshine7356 no worries at all. Wasn't trying to be condescending. Just a lot of people belive they're extinct. They are EFFECTIVELY extinct, but occasionally there are isolated populations that remain relatively unaffected by the blight and produce seed, and there's even a few groups online that are breeding resistant varieties of pure American chestnut and not hybrids. American Chestnut Foundation and the The American Chestnut Research & Restoration Project are the main two I know of. There may be more. Either way, glad I could help, and that whiskey looks absolutely amazing. Wish I could taste it. 😁
